Welcome to Guglielmo Winery

As one of Northern California’s wine pioneers, the Guglielmo family has been producing wines in the Santa Clara Valley since 1925 – continuing a winemaking craft passed down for generations in Italy.

Brothers George E. and Gene keep the family tradition alive by producing award-winning varietal wines under the Guglielmo Private Reserve label as well as Tre varietals and Emile’s table wines from around 50 acres of Santa Clara Valley estate vineyards, as well as Monterey County and other premium winegrowing regions throughout California. Guglielmo wines reflect the tradition and dedication to their cultural heritage – and celebrate one of the simple pleasures of life. Today, the winemaking and daily operations remain in the hands of the third and fourth-generation family members! Your visit is welcomed and you will fall in love with the winery, the award-winning wines, and the warmth of the Guglielmo family.

The Vineyards

From our family to yours since 1929

Our growing region is unique in that it is a mixture of rural, urban, and suburban settings. The site is classified as Region II with regard to climate which is synonymous with some of the most famous appellations in the world. The soil type is classified as a Pleasanton Loam which is essentially a gravelly loam. This translates to soil that is well drained and consequently well suited to grape cultivation. Climatic conditions are dominated by our coastal influence from both the Monterey Bay in the Southwest and the San Francisco Bay in the North. Usually, fog hangs over the vineyard in the early morning, receding Southward as the morning progresses. Damaging low temperature dips are well moderated by the costal influence that greatly minimizes the threat of frost damage.

In the vineyard, generally, bud break occurs in mid-March with harvest beginning in early September. Vineyard practices are designed to be as sustainable as possible. Vineyard canopies are kept open to facilitate light exposure and disease resistance. Reduced irrigation techniques are employed to encourage vines to express themselves fully. Crop loads are also matched to accommodate these rigorous conditions.
